Fotografiska Announces New Museum in Shenzhen, Expanding Its Presence in China
Fotografiska will open a new museum in Shenzhen on October 1, 2026, marking its second location in China and its fifth location globally after Stockholm, Tallinn, Berlin, and Shanghai.
Developed in partnership with Shenzhen Bay MIXC, Fotografiska Shenzhen will span approximately 5,300 square meters. The new museum reflects Fotografiska’s continued commitment to China and to the cultural development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
Located in Shenzhen Bay, the museum will be part of an emerging cultural district that includes Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza and Tencent’s Rong Museum of Art, among other cultural institutions. Fotografiska Shenzhen will present a year-round program of rotating exhibitions dedicated to photography, visual art, and contemporary image culture.
Yoram Roth, Chairman of Fotografiska, said:
“China is one of the world’s most important and rapidly evolving cultural landscapes. It has always been our ambition to build more than one Fotografiska location here through strong local partnerships. Over the past three years in Shanghai, we have learned a great deal about engaging Chinese audiences, designing public programs, developing unique food and beverage and retail concepts, and working with leading brand partners. We are now bringing that experience to Shenzhen.”
Fotografiska’s model brings together exhibitions, cultural programming, food and beverage, and retail in one integrated unique visitor experience.
The inaugural exhibition program will feature TOILETPAPER, Michael Najjar, Shi Guowei, and Storm, an exhibition drawn from the Prix Pictet cycle, offering a vibrant introduction to the breadth and possibilities of photography today.
